Project scope and design strategy

What began as a small summer renovation at the Salem Child Development Center quickly became a much larger project for our team.

We began construction in June 2025 at the center’s main facility off Fairgrounds Road in Northeast Salem. The original scope included converting two large rooms into classrooms, adding a bathroom, and updating finishes, with completion planned before the upcoming school year.

Just two weeks into construction, our team noticed smoke coming through ceiling tiles in our work area. We quickly learned that a fire had started in the roof truss area of another portion of the building. The fire and resulting smoke caused substantial damage and changed the course of the project overnight.

From that point forward, our role shifted from completing a remodel to helping the owner navigate a major restoration. We worked closely with the owner, architects, engineers, insurance consultants, and project partners to assess the damage, overcome unexpected conditions, and rebuild the facility.

Fire restoration brought plenty of challenges, requiring constant communication, flexibility, and problem-solving. Through it all, our focus remained on moving the project forward and helping create a safe, welcoming space for the children, families, and staff who depend on it.

We are proud of what our team and project partners accomplished and grateful for the trust placed in us throughout the process. What started as a two-classroom remodel became a full restoration effort, and we were excited to welcome children and staff back to campus in the summer of 2026.
